About Zavesca:

  • Zavesca contains the active substance Miglustat which is a glucosylceramide synthase inhibitor intended as monotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with mild/moderate type 1 Gaucher disease when enzyme replacement therapy is not left as an option.
  • Zavesca is used to treat two inherited diseases that affect the way how body handles fats. Both diseases lead to the accumulation of fatty substances called glycosphingolipids in the body.

Strength:

Miglustat 100 mg of capsules, white opaque hard gelatin capsules.

Recommended Dosage:

  • The recommended dose is 100 mg capsule administered orally three times a day at regular intervals.
  • If a dose is missed, the next capsule should be taken at the next scheduled time.
  • The dose should be reduced to one 100 mg capsule once or twice a day in patients due to adverse reactions like tremors or diarrhea.

Warnings & Precautions:

  • Peripheral neuropathy: Follow-ups to be done with neurological evaluations at 6-month intervals in such patients.
  • Tremor: Dose to be reduced to ameliorate tremor or discontinue treatment if it is not resolved within days of dose reduction.
