About Bexagliflozin
Bexagliflozin is a prescribed medicine for the treatment of:
- Improving glycemic control in adults suffering from diabetes mellitus of type 2.
- This is an adjunct to diet and exercise.
Important note – Consumption of Bexagliflozin is not recommended for type 1 diabetes mellitus
patients. Consuming Bexagliflozin for these patients can cause diabetic ketoacidosis.
Strength
Tablets of 20 mg
Recommended Dosage
- The recommended Dosage for Bexagliflozin is 20mg tablets once a day. This should be taken in the morning without an empty stomach.
- Bexagliflozin tablets should not be chewed or crushed.
- Ensure renal function before initiating, correct volume should be initiated.
- When eGFR is less than 30 mL/min/1.73 m2, it is recommended not to consume Bexagliflozin.
Warning and precautions
- Ketoacidosis: Irrespective of blood sugar level, evaluate the patients who show the signs and symptoms of ketoacidosis. Discontinue and treat the patient properly when diagnosed with ketoacidosis.
- Lower limb amputation: Some signs can increase the risk for amputations before starting bexagliflozin. Regularly check the signs and symptoms of infection or ulcers of the lower limbs, and take appropriate measures if these symptoms are present.
- Volume depletion: The consumption of Bexagliflozin can cause some kidney injuries. Before starting to take the Bexagliflozin dose, make sure that the correct volume status is given to patients with impaired renal function or low systolic blood pressure, elderly patients, or patients on diuretics.
- Urosepsis and pyelonephritis: Evaluate patients for signs and symptoms of urinary tract infections and treat promptly, if indicated.
- Hypoglycemia: Make lower insulin or insulin secretagogue doses to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
- Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Perineum (Fournier’s Gangrene): This is a serious issue, life- threatening cases have been seen in people who are treated with SGLT2 inhibitors. Check patients experiencing pain, tenderness, erythema, or swelling in the genital or perineal area. other than that, check if the patient has a fever or malaise.
- Genital mycotic infection: Monitor and treat as appropriate.

- Store between 20°C to 25°C
